What is Challenger mobile?
Challenger mobile is a telephony service that allows you to make free calls via the internet, straight from your Nokia Eseries or Nokia N80ie - or other mobile phones that support internet calls.

How does Challenger mobile work?
Challenger mobile routes your calls via the internet rather than via traditional mobile networks. Because the internet is a much cheaper way to route calls, you save money.

Challenger mobile does not require you to abandon your existing GSM operator - you simply use Challenger mobile whenever you want, and your GSM operator whenever you want.

To get started, you sign up with Challenger mobile (its completely free). Then you just accept the configurations we send you via text message (SMS), straight to your mobile phone, and you're all set to start making free internet calls with our service.

What phones does Challenger mobile work on?
Today Challenger mobile works on all the phones listed on our Supported Phones page. Or any other mobile phones that support internet calls.

Our site is geared towards serving all customers - but especially those with Nokia Eseries and Nokia N80ie. If your phone is not a Nokia Eseries or Nokia N80ie, but you believe it supports internet calls, please contact us for more information on how to get started.

I want free internet calls, but my phone isn't listed on your Supported Phones page - what can I do?
In order to use Challenger mobile your phone needs to support internet calls.

If you aren't sure if your phone supports internet calls, contact your handset provider and ask "Does my phone support internet calls via the SIP protocol?"

If the answer is YES, great! Please remember to let us know.

Otherwise, you can register interest now and we'll let you know as soon as we have a new release!

Where can I use Challenger mobile?
Challenger mobile works whenever you are in a wireless internet zone - a so called "WiFi zone".

This means that if you have wireless internet at home or in the office, your Challenger mobile service works there.

You can also use it in public areas with wireless internet or commercial hotspots (at airports, in hotels etc).

Why should I use Challenger mobile?
Because you want to make free internet calls from your mobile phone.

And, because you have a mobile phone that comes with the necessary software to make internet calls, like the Nokia Eseries phones for example.

How is it possible for you to offer FREE mobile calls?
Because we route our calls via the internet, which is cheaper than the traditional GSM networks.

Why do you also license your platform to other operators and service providers?
Because we believe that cost-efficient, easy to use mobile internet calling should be available to as many people as possible. And, the more people that has a SIP number, the more people you can call for free.

What is a SIP number?
A SIP number is similar to an email address. It consists of a user name and a domain name (username@domain.com). By using this address, people all over the world can communicate via voice, video, instant messenger etc.

Basically, it looks like an email address but works like a super-powered phone number!

How can I get a SIP number?
When you sign up with Challenger mobile, we will give you a SIP number, so that you can communicate with people all over the world via the internet - for free.

Does having a SIP number mean that all my friends have to memorize a whole new phone number in order to call me for free?
We recommend that your SIP number consist of your GSM number. It's just easier to remember and share with all your friends that way.

For example, if your GSM number (your regular mobile number) is + 46 (123) 45 67 89 - we recommend that you set your SIP number to be:

46123456789@challengermobile.com

See, your GSM number is the first part of that SIP number. When someone wants to call you via the internet, they will dial this SIP number!

My friends don't have SIP numbers, how can I call them with Challenger mobile then?
If your friends don't have a SIP number, just tell them to get one from Challenger mobile. The more people you know that have SIP numbers, the more people you can call for free!

What kinds of mobile calls can I make with Challenger mobile?
Today, you can make calls to all kinds of phones - other SIP numbers, landlines, GSM numbers - and save lots on all your calls!

Calls to other SIP numbers are FREE. And calls to landlines or GSM numbers -especially international and long-distance- are really great value.

Can I make emergency calls with Challenger mobile?
NO. Not yet. To make emergency calls you need to use your regular GSM service.

Do I need to download any software?
No. Not unless your mobile phone needs to update its firmware in order to make internet calls. Please contact your mobile phone provider for more information. Below is an example showing how to update your Nokia Eseries firmware:

To use Challenger mobile you'll need the latest firmware for your Nokia Eseries. To check the firmware installed on your Nokia Eseries phone, press *#0000#.

To use Challenger mobile you need this firmware on your Nokia Eseries:

To update your Nokia Eseries firmware, visit Nokia Software Update.

What do I do after I sign up for an account?
Open your confirmation email and click on the link inside to activate your account.

Once you have activated your account, your phone settings will arrive straight into your mobile phone via a text message (SMS).
